Last week, I was interviewed on BBC Radio Scotland about Easter holiday planning for families, and some of our campervan adventures (get me, dropping that in so casually, as if I’m a seasoned radio-interviewee who doesn’t get excited about such things – I am not, and I was!) In the interview I spoke about our Easter and Spring bucket list – a seasonal tradition started in our household after I forgot to buy an advent calendar at Christmas 😉 – which basically involves sitting down as a family and making a list of all the things we’d like to do. The bucket list for this season includes a few old faithfuls as well as some new ones for us (hello Outlander Trail and Jamie Fraser 🙂 ). Feel free to borrow, copy or steal them – and remember, the very act of just making a bucket list can be a lot of fun as well!

If you need some more inspiration for your Scottish Spring bucket list, never fear, as I have a bucketload (see what I did there? 😉 ) of ideas in my archives courtesy of all the trips, adventures and days out we have had. So why not add one or two of these to your list for your Easter holidays or into Spring (or even Summer?) Adventure awaits folks. That unmistakable scent of school holidays is in the air.

If you’re looking for something simple, what about a day out at the beach with the whole family? You can’t beat that feeling of the sand between your toes. And if it’s blowing a hoolie, as we say in Scotland, why not take along a kite?

If cycling’s your bag, I’ve got a round up of some of the best family cycling destinations in Scotland. So get on your bike and get pedalling. It’s fun, it’s family-friendly, and best of all it’s free!

If you’re a film buff, why not check out my post on Scottish movie trail locations? Plenty to keep the kids occupied on this one (particularly if they happen to be fans of that little-known wizard commonly referred to as Harry P).

If island-hopping is your thing, why not live the adventure and head off to the Outer Hebrides or Orkney? For lands steeped in history, culture and that sense of serenity, these beautiful islands are pretty hard to beat.

Closer to home (my home that is), why not come and join us on the North Coast 500? Have a look at this piece I wrote for the Venture North website a couple of years ago and find out why I love the far north of Scotland so very, very much.

And if you happen to be up this way, why not visit Sandwood Bay, often touted as one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. This one has that little something extra, though, in the form of the 9-mile round trip required to visit it – just take your hiking boots, a picnic, and your sense of fun.

If a city break is more your thing, what about everything you could ever want to do on a 48 hour trip to Edinburgh? Possibly my favourite city in the whole of Scotland. Why not discover its delights on an adventure of your own this year, too?

Back to the outdoorsy stuff, and I can’t recommend a trip to Aviemore and the Cairngorms more highly. Easy to access, full of things to do with the family, and simply beautiful – this outdoor heaven is one of our favourite places to holiday in the world.
